The Toyota Corolla line of sub-compact compact cars manufactured by Toyota. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was able to be the best-selling vehicle worldwide by 1974, and has been the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, Toyota Corolla became the best selling nameplate in the world, we pass the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached milestone of 40 million Corollas sold in over eleven generations July 2013. The series has been several major redesigns.

The Corolla name is part of Toyota’s naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans. The Corolla has been exclusive to Japan Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with twin, Toyota sprinter until 2000.

In most cases early models of the rear-wheel drive, while the later models have front-wheel drive. The Corolla’s competitors has been a traditional Nissan Sunny, introduced same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Honda Civic. The code Corolla’s chassis designation is “E”, as defined in the Toyota chassis and engine codes.

Toyota Corolla Production

Corollas are manufactured in Japan, Brazil, Canada (Cambridge, Ontario), China (Tianjin), India (Bangalore), Pakistan, South Africa (Durban), Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey and Venezuela. Production has previously carried out in Australia (Victoria) and the United Kingdom (Derbyshire). Production in the United States ended in March 2010. It was resumed in late 2011, after the plant of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi was opened in November 2011 in Blue Springs, Mississippi.

Toyota Corolla Alternative Versions

In Japan, the Corolla has been the only Japanese retail sales chain as Toyota Corolla Store, which was previously established in 1961, as Toyota Store Public, selling Toyota Pública. A badge engineered version of the athlete was introduced around the same time as the Corolla in Japan, and sold at the different Toyota Japan dealership sales channel in 1966, Toyota Auto Store.

There are several models, including the Corolla Ceres hardtop, Corolla Levin and Trueno sprinter sports coupés and hatchbacks, and hatchback Corolla FX, which became the Corolla RunX, and the athlete was Allex, and the introduction of ZZE128 Corolla. The RunX and Allex was replaced by Lauris in 2006 (known as the Corolla in markets outside Japan and South Africa). A luxury version of the Lauris installed with V6 engines was briefly sold at Japanese Toyota dealerships Toyota and Toyopet Store Store locations as Blade, which was discontinued in 2012.

A compact MPV has been named the Corolla Verso and European markets. Its Japanese counterpart is the Corolla Spacio, which has been discontinued as of the generation 10. The Corolla Rumion also sold in the US market as the Scion XB.

The Corolla Matrix, better known as the Matrix, shares in the 120 and 140 platforms, and is considered the hatchback / sport wagon model sedan North American Corolla, as the European / Australasian Corolla hatchback sold. Toyota always include the sales figures of the sedan Corolla and Matrix. The Pontiac Vibe, which General Motors badged version of the Matrix, and associates with the Corolla platform. The Pontiac Vibe sent from Fremont, California Japanese market when sold as the Toyota Voltz.

For many years, there have been rebadged versions of Toyota Corolla, sold by General Motors, including the 1980 ‘Holden Nova of Australia, and athlete-based Chevrolet Nova, Chevrolet Prizm, and Geo Prizm (in the United States). The liftback Corolla (TE72) of Toyota Australia was badged as the T-18. The liftback five-door sold Corolla Seca name in Australia and the nameplate survived on successive five-door models.

The Daihatsu Charmant was produced with the E30 through E70 series. Tercel was a front wheel drive car, introduced in 1980 at the Japanese Toyota dealerships as Toyota Corolla Store, and it was called the Corolla Tercel, and later was named its 1984 platform The Tercel was used for the hatchback Toyota Corolla II in Japan.
