Land Rover Discovery

The Land Rover Discovery is a mid-size luxury SUV, from the British car maker Land Rover. Four generations of the car, which was introduced in 1989 the current Discovery 4 are sent to North America as the Land Rover LR4.

Land Rover Discovery I (1989-1998)

The Land Rover Discovery was introduced into the United Kingdom in 1989, the company code-named the car “Project Jay”. The new model was based on the chassis and drivetrain of the more upmarket Range Rover, but at a low price targets on the market a part of a larger intended to compete with the Japanese offerings. This was the generation Discovery-cylinder petrol engine.

In 1992, the availability of received several additions and developments. Interior beige times more distinctive and traditional light blue, automatic transmission used on 200Tdi models, new colors were added to the list (and the ‘compass and the mountain’ side decals worn by Discoveries in the morning so as not to wavy panel fit around the rear windows of three quarter it was installed) and ‘SE’ pack was introduced as an option. A two-Seater, three-door Discovery Commercial version, lacking the rear side windows, and later provided by Land Rover Special Vehicles.

In 1994, a number of changes carried out Discovery. It reached some markets as the “Discovery 2″, the 200Tdi and 3.5 L V8 engines were replaced with the 2.5 L 300TDi 4-cylinder and 3.9-liter Rover V8 engines. The 300Tdi introducing Bosch electronic emissions control certain models and markets. At this time the powerful R380 gearbox fitted to all models in the manual. The Newer models featured larger headlamps complete set of lights for the bumper of the second. New building lights had their wiring configuration changed several times to meet the actual legislation or expected of European security. Some vehicles remained vulnerable when the bumper arrangement only contains the direction indicator lamps, and other examples of this association with the traditional lighting of the rear pillar.

Land Rover Discovery Series II (1998-2004)

The Land Rover Discovery Series II intervened in autumn 1998 and the US in 1999 Land Rover Discovery promoted Series II had been modified with a 720 ‘difference. The interior and exterior was re-worked to be less utilitarian, but it was still similar to the Series I. Every body panel was new except the door to rear outer skin. The body of the building was extended to improve load space but the added expense overhang at the rear, contributing to the off-road ability. Td5 engine is often mistakenly attributed to BMW, derived from the Rover L-series car passenger engine developed by Land Rover.

The 3,948 cc V8 petrol version from the Land Rover Discovery 1 Instead of the Range Rover P38 Thor 4.0 liter Rover-derived V8. There was no actual increase in capacity in the 3.9-liter engine. Although the same basic design of the engine, it was actually quite different: It used a different Crankshaft, had a major bearing journals with cross mounted in CAPS, different con rods, and different Pistons.

The difference locking center was still fitted until early 2001, while communicating conduct was not attached, as Land Rover believed that the traction control and the newly formed Hill Descent Control would render it redundant. The actual locking mechanism removed in early 2001, before being fully restored (with links) and the face-lifted 2004 model. Although traction control system worked very effectively, it did not offer the same level of control and operation of vehicles equipped with a lock difference. Customer demand saw Diff lock controls fully restored as it costs (standard on the range HSE / SE cars) UK / Irish models, and aftermarket kits offered by several vendors for those vehicles which were produced and lock, but not to communicate.

The US version was available in three trim levels: S, SE and HSE, SE and HSE 7, SE7 and HSE7. The “face-lift” models seem to be new “pocketed” headlamps (which matched the Range Rover and face-lifted Freelander model) and turn and brake lights on the rear of the car. The signals turn moved from the bumper to the high side fixtures. The Series at the beginning of II models could instead easily be distinguished from the availability of the original by the position of those fixtures stop light above the window line (the earlier models had below), and by the door of the paddle handles current form. The Series II and differs slightly from all sides.

A small number of Land Rover Discovery II Commercial models were produced by Land Rover Special Vehicles, in this case based on the bodyshell five-door but the windows rendered opaque to provide a van-like appearance and safety. Normal cars were shipped to the Republic of Ireland, where the rear side windows were smashed and the rear seats were destroyed before the Revenue officer, to offer a model avoided the Vehicle Registration Tax (saving about 40%). The Ads came to the rear suspension self-estimation as standard.

In the last production run Land Rover Discovery II, only two models are offered for sale in the UK market, the ‘base’ Pursuit, which still retained a high level of equipment as standard, while the top sebhithi Landmark, which offered an all-leather interior, sunroofs twin, Active cornering Enhancement , six-disc CD player, and heated windscreen. Vehicles final left the production lines in late May 2004 to make way for every Discovery 3 (LR3) new models.

Land Rover Discovery Discovery 3 / LR3 (legal copyright 2005-2010)

On 2 April 2004, Land Rover Discovery brought 3, marketed as Land Rover LR3 in North America. It retained the key features of the Discovery, such as the roofline aboard and windscreen steeply toward raked. LR3 name selected North American markets because of the negative quality to the name Discovery and a preference in the American market for alpha-numeric model called – the second generation Freelander was also re-designed the North American market as the Land Rover LR2.

Land Rover developed a method for the construction of the body for the Discovery 3, marketed as Frame Integrated Body (IBF). The engine bay passengers built as the monocoque, then mated to a basic ladder-frame chassis for the gearbox and suspension. Land Rover says IBF combines qualities of monocoque and frame isitebhisi– although the heavy vehicle, compromising the performance and the pace.

The LR3 features full independent suspension (Nafis). Like the Range Rover L322, this is an air suspension makes the ride-height adjustment by simply pumping up or deflating air bags. The vehicle can be raised to provide ground clearance when off-road, but reduces speed to improve handling. Land Rover developed a ‘cross-linked’ air suspension. If necessary, the suspension mimics the action of axle beam (as one wheel drops, some of the gullies). If the chassis contacts the vehicle down when his suspension was ‘off road’ height, the system senses a decrease in the burden of sources raises the car an inch extra. In the UK and European markets, coil-spring independent suspension system was given on the base model. The range of different model for only five seats and only available with a 2.7 liter diesel. This model lacked the Status Response.

The engines used in the Land Rover Discovery 3 all taken from the sister company Land Rover At that time, Jaguar. A Ford / PSA-developed 2.7-liter, 195 hp (145 kW), 440 Nm V6 diesel (the TdV6) was intended to be the big seller in Europe. To US market and as a high performance alternative option, a 4.4 liter petrol V8 300 hp (220 kW) was chosen. A 216 hp (161 kW) 4.0-liter SOHC Ford V6 petrol engine was available in North America and Australia.

The gearbox on the Discovery 3 and all-new. To diesel engine, a manual transmission and six-speed standard. As an option, and as standard V8 engine, a six automatic transmission speed was. Both came to the transfer box with two-speed and permanent four-wheel drive-. A computer-controlled continuously turn off the central difference confirmed traction stored in difficult situations. A difference was available on the same axle set up to assist the fire.

The Land Rover Discovery 3 was fitted with multiple electronic traction control systems. Hill Descent Control (HDC) prevented vehicle ‘Runaways’ when descending steep gradients and 4-wheel Electronic Traction Control (4ETC) preventing wheel spin in low-fire. An on-road system, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), preventing skidding when steering and braking speed. The car also featured the ‘Status Response’ system. Earlier, off-road driving had a skill that many drivers found daunting. A different vehicle information needed to be able to choose the correct gear, the transmission ratio, the difference in the various programs and master the various techniques required for tackling steep, deep water and other difficult terrain. Terrain Response tried to take away many of the possible. The driver selected a type of world on a dial in the front of the car.

The on-board computer systems and select the correct gearbox settings, adjust the height of the suspension, adjust the settings the difference even modify lock fitting the engine throttle response of the world.

Land Rover Discovery 4 / LR4 (2010-)

Availability 4 (called the LR4 in North America) of the new version of Discovery 3. Using the same Integrated Body Frame structure, the availability of the new has changed the front and rear light units and a restyled front and bumper grille to receive the same smooth, rounder style and adapted as the 2010 Range Rover Sport and Range Rover. The Discovery 4 and has the body-colored wheel arches and Persa as the end of Discovery 3s (in the morning D3s had black plastic trim). Daylight Optional Running Lamps can be specified when the leading LED lighting includes both front and rear lamp units.

Most of the mechanical changes. The D4 gets two engines from Jaguar Land Rover’s range of ‘Gen III’. The TDV6 Gen III development of the 3.0-liter of the engine 2.7-liter used in the D3. The new version features advanced turbochargers sequential twin-đã geometry turbocharger is used at low engine speeds, the second with the standard turbo is brought online at higher engine speeds. This system provides output greater than the old engine, 241 BHP (180 kW) and 600 N · m (440 lb · ft) while reducing CO2 emissions of 10%. The Gen III version of the V8 petrol engine (available in markets outside the UK such as North America, Russia, Australia, and other countries EU) Now 5-liter unit and Direct Petrol Injection developing 385 BHP (287 kW) and 520 N · m (380 lb · ft).

The Discovery 4 and show the inside (the fulfillment of the new styles introduced elsewhere in the range LR 2010). The instrument cluster is updated analogue speedometer and Bremsbelag estimate for clarity improved. The estimate of analogue temperature / fuel of the previous model and electronic information display instead of a single TFT screen capable of showing information in a variety of modes and formats. The interior also has a new center console, connecting the switches and convenience and control. The Discovery also has a new seat design and a broad range of interior materials available – some previously only seen in Range Rover models. The purpose of the said of the interior was to raise an upmarket car, and higher-Spec model is now aimed at the luxury and executive markets.

Gains some car electronic systems from the Range Rover, such as the optional ‘Surround Camera System’ – a series of cameras located in the headlamps, wing mirrors, and rear tailgate handle can display their photos on the screen in the center console to improve visibility. Other electronic systems are intended to improve the performance of the engines include the ‘Smart’ alternator that charges the battery when the engine load, thus helping to reduce petrol when the engine is working hard.

Discovery 4 was unveiled in the summer of 2009 and went on sale in the United Kingdom on 1 September of the same year. Delivered A Commercial van variant in the UK at the same time using the 2.7 engine offered in GS and XS trim levels. In the Republic of Ireland a van Commercial offered from 1 January 2010 based on the manual xe 2.7 HSE 3.0 auto engines.
