Land Rover History

The design for the original Land Rover car was started in 1947 by Maurice Wilks, chief designer of the Rover Company, on his farm in Newborough, Anglesey. It is said was inspired by an American World War II Jeep that he used one summer at his holiday home in Wales. The first Land Rover prototype, later nicknamed ‘Centre steer’, was built on the chassis Jeep and axles.

The choice in the morning coding dictated by the forces of military surplus supplies of aircraft cockpit paint, so early vehicles only came in various shades of green light, all models until recently include strong box section ladder-frame chassis.

Early cars, such as the Series I, were field-tested at Long Bennington and designed to field needs, ads Rovers cite vehicles driven thousands of miles on banana oil. Now the more complex needs of this under the options. The British Army maintains the use of the mechanically simple 2.5-liter cylinder versions 300TDi Ned rather than electronically controlled 2.5-liter five-cylinder TD5 to service much easier. This engine and continued in use in some export markets using units built a Ford plant in Brazil, where Land Rovers formed under the license and the engine was also used in Ford pick-up trucks built locally. Production TDI engine for the United Kingdom in 2006, which means that Land Rover no longer offers it as an option. International Motors of Brazil offer an engine called the 2.8 TGV Power of torque, which is important as a version of the 2.8 liter of the 300TDi, the corresponding increase in the power of torque.

During its ownership by Ford, Land Rover once again associated with Jaguar – the first time the two companies under the same ownership since the period of British Leyland. In many countries share a common sales and distribution network (including shared dealerships), and some models shared parts and production facilities.

Land Rover Electric Cars

ntegrated Electric Rear axle Drive technology, (Rad) call in the technology world, will cause the car to move without starting the engine and supplying extra power difficult terrain. Diesel Rad Hybrid Land Rover’s part of the project multi-million-pound supported by the UK Government’s Energy Saving Trust, under the low carbon research and development. The Rad is one of a broad range of systems engineering sustainability-focused Land Rover is pursuing, brought together by the company under the collective name “in terrain Technologies”.

Land Rover presented at the 2008 London Motor Show Rad diesel-electric hybrid in a new pair of Freelander 2 (LR2) prototypes. The new hybrid system is being designed as a scalable and modular system can be used in a variety of Land Rover models and powertrains. Land Rover unveiled the LRX hybrid concept at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, because to go to production. An Arad will allow the car to run power at speeds below 20 mph (32 km / h).
